Today, Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) broke ground on a new Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) Station. Joined by members of the Nevada congressional delegation, the groundbreaking marks a significant investment in the airport’s emergency response infrastructure, made possible by a total of $23.1 million in federal funding.

“Harry Reid International is an essential part of Southern Nevada’s economy, welcoming millions of visitors each year and connecting our community to the rest of the world. Keeping an airport of this size running safely and efficiently takes an incredible amount of coordination by the Clark County Fire Department and airport staff,” said Senator Rosen. “Thanks to this funding we secured, Harry Reid International Airport will have the state-of-the-art equipment and facilities necessary to continue their great work and ensure that every traveler who flies into or out of the airport is safe.”

Located on the LAS airfield, Station 13 is one of the oldest fire stations in the Clark County Fire Department and has served the airport for more than 40 years. The new facility will support the airport’s ability to accommodate growing air travel demand while maintaining emergency response capabilities, operational readiness and the safety of passengers, employees and airport operations.

“Our airport supports a destination that hosts some of the world’s biggest events,” said James C. Chrisley, Clark County Director of Aviation. “With that level of activity, having modern safety infrastructure in place is not optional – it’s fundamental to operating a world-class airport. Replacing aging infrastructure is a top priority as we begin planning and executing our long-term modernization efforts to meet today’s needs and prepare for the future.”

The new 28,000-square-foot facility, scheduled to be completed in early 2028, will feature nine apparatus bays, two more than the current station, along with enhanced training space, individual dorm rooms and modern paging and alert technology. These upgrades will provide firefighters with an updated and functional environment, as well as the resources needed to respond more effectively.

“I’m grateful to the Nevada congressional delegation and the Clark County Department of Aviation for their continued investment in the safety and effectiveness of our emergency response operations,” said Billy Samuels, Clark County Fire Chief. “This new facility will help ensure our firefighters remain prepared for every call and have the resources and equipment they need to do their jobs safely and effectively, while further strengthening our commitment to protecting the public and our first responders.”

The project underscores LAS’ continued commitment to modernizing critical infrastructure and ensuring its emergency response teams are equipped to meet the demands of a growing airport and one of the nation’s busiest travel destinations.
